Mix up about my diagnosis

so last week when I went to the ER and was seen by the assessment nurse, she asked me if I had EUPD. I was like nooo, why? She said she saw it in my chart. Of course I almost flipped my lid. I was like why is that in my chart when my primary diagnosis is did and the secondary one is complex ptsd? I decided to ask dr. barry. So I did on Tuesday. Dr. barry said the reason its in my chart is because some of the personalities have traits of bpd. The key thing here is traits. She wasnt saying I had EUPD, just that some insiders show traits of that diagnosis. Which if I think about it is true. I did get angry when the assessment nurse brought it up because she acted very dismissive and was saying how admission to hospital doesnt usually help someone with EUPD. I’m glad dr. barry set the record straight about it for me. She said we will need to talk more about it in the future.

  1. I definitely understand you being upset about the suggestion of EUPD. I was misdiagnosed with BPD and everything else for many years. This led to cruel and abusive treatment by psychiatric clinicians for many years. The consequences of being misdiagnosed literally nearly cost me my life-either by my own hands or by others (hospital employees or the police). I’m extremely bitter about all of this. I consider all of this to be more damaging than the abuse that caused my DID in the first place. I’ve been told that the extreme psychiatric abuse I’ve endured caused me to develop more alters just to survive and cope with the abuse.

    1. I’m so sorry. That’s awful. Camper leave the amount of abuse you win George I mean I do believe you of course but it’s just crazy, some professionals really should be in the profession that they working

  2. Hi may I ask? What is EUPD? I know that too In my records they said I was Borderline (which is also true) some said I had bipolar disorder (which is not true) some wrote I had prolonged depression (which was true a long time ago). the only thing I DO NOT KNOW IS WHO ON EARTH ARE WE? Keep strong I know psychiatric hospitals too just those in Switzerland and they are not better than all over the world. I promise.

  3. Before I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, I was diagnosed with BPD (or EUPD). However, I am now under treatment by a specialist psycho trauma centre with a specialist trauma psychologist. One of the first things she did was to have the diagnosis of BPD removed from my file. She said that trauma victims display traits of BPD but that is all. Traits. Victims of trauma, especially sexual trauma are often mistakenly diagnosed with a personality disorder.

  4. I’m glad you’re back home. Hospital is good when you’re ailing, but when you star to feel better it can get really boring. I’ve never heard of EUPd. What is it.

  5. That is very frustrating. If, as Dr Barry says, you have EUPD traits but not actual EUPD then that is what should be written.

Words matter very much. I know from my own experience how having the wrong thing written in your file makes people jump to the wrong conclusions and treat you differently and incorrectly.
