Hard morning, mom might have cancer, so worried

its been a hard morning for us. Mom got the results of her chest x ray. And so far they arent good. She got the results yesterday, but the doctor phoned her and wanted to see her this morning to talk to her so thats why I never posted anything about it yesterday. Basically, there is no improvement since the last x ray she had a month ago. The lobe in her right lung is still collapsed. Her GP wants to refer her to a lung specialist but that will take 2 to 3 weeks. She told her she could go privately to have a thorax scan of her lungs, that would cost 200 euro and would show up any tumours or cancer if there is any there. Mom has the money so she is going to have that done. That scan will be done in the next 2 to 3 days. If that scan does show cancer, she will have to have another more detailed CT scan of her chest. She will still go to the lung specialist as well. If she does have cancer, they’ll either operate to remove it or else she’ll have kemo and radiation. I’m so so so worried. I dont want her to have cancer. She said the doctor kept reassuring her that she has patients who have had lung cancer and are still alive after 20 years. She said the fact that my mom is healthy in every other area stands to her. And she hasnt been losing weight which is usually a bad sign. So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when she has that scan. And try not to worry too much in the short term. I could use a lot of support right now though. I’m beyond stressed.

  1. You have my prayers. I know that cancer is always the first thing one thinks, but it may not be that. I’m glad your mom is going for the thorax scan. It also helps that she is healthy in every other way and that-if it is cancer-she’s caught it very early. I hope you have something you can get absorbed in, like a good book or music or a TV show. Perhaps you could also facetime some of your friends. I’m sure you’re really stressed and if you’re stressed so is everyone else, which probably makes it worse. I’m glad you’re going to have check-ins this weekend in case one or more of you have problems. Hugs xxxx

  2. I’m so sorry to hear that. My mom has cancer, and it made me realize when you are healthy you wish for everything, but once you are sick you only wish for health. Sending hugs
