First mentoring session with Julie

today, i had my first mentoring session with the student who is on placement at the basement club, her name is Julie. it went well. my mentor colette did a kind of hand over, she told her how to do things, what she needs to document, then she told her a little about me and what we’ve been working on together over the past few weeks. then after that colette left the room and let us talk, so that i could start to get to know julie. i felt very comfortable with her. she is young, and eager to learn. that was very evident. she seems to be good at listening, and empathising. i think i’m going to like working with her. we’ll be working together for the next 7 or 8 weeks. she is going to help me work on getting my poetry book published, she is going to source the information about different publishers, she said she’d talk to the creative writing teacher on thursday and get some info from her, so thats a good start. we will also be working on finding some things to do in the local area, she asked me about my interests, and she is going to email me on any info about things that might interest me. i think this is going to be a good opportunity for her to learn, since she has already told me she wants to work in the mental health field when she finishes in college. i’m glad i could give her the chance to learn. i feel like i’m making a difference, and that feels good.
